Amanda Bossard, fresh out from Anchorage High School the year 1992, began studying marine biology. Bossard launched her professional career in the field of commercial seafood worker in 1999. She began to work with the ship F/V Sunset a 65' halibut-schooner that was turned into a tender for salmon in the name of Murat Aritan. She had been working as a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are married now and have come together in claiming their share of their industry. They believe in conservative, sustainable management of renewable seafood resources. In 2007, now a mother of two children Bella aged 3 as well as Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia, opened a direct market wholesale seafood distributor named Otolith. Bossard along with her son Andre and daughter Isabella are scheduled to return home to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands in the harvest of wild salmon. In the course of two months, Bossard and Isabella use hooks & lines to fish for their desired salmon. Aritan will then sell their catch locally to processors.
